âMy eye was saved by a placenta after the acid attackâ

A donated placenta has been used to help protect a manâs eye after the acid attack.
Acid was squeeted on Paul Laskyâs face, causing severe chemical irritation in his eyes, âmeltingâ both the inner and outer layers of his cornea.
He had two emergency corneal transplants and three Amanian grafts, where tissue was used to protect his eye from the internal lining of a donated placenta.
Mr. Lasky of Newcastle said: âI am very grateful to the mother who donated her Tumble To help people like me who are in danger of losing their vision completely. ,
Professor Francisco Figuardo, an advisor to the Royal Victoria Information (RVI), Newcastle, described the success of the operation as remarkable.

Their eye survived, doctors are now trying to restore their eyesight through stem cell treatment.

In England, the Cord of NHS Blood and Transplant collects placentas from mothers at University College Hospitals, London and Luteon and Dunstable Hospital, Bedfordshire.
