‘My nephew killed my brother – but I have forgiven him’

A person’s brother has killed his mentally ill son and has health services and the police have thwarted his family.
On 5 August 2022, Brenton Marriott died in a hospital after a knife by Rudy Marriott at Closter Street, Nottingham.
Rudy, who had paranoid schizophrenia, Sentenced to hospital order Last April after being found guilty of murder on low responsibility, but Delvin Marriott said that the family tried to help him years before the attack.
With recent announcement of Public inquiry led by a judge in Nottingham attacks – Which happened less than a year later – Delvin said that he wanted to ensure that someone else goes through the same trauma.
‘Personality changed’
In his first full interview since Brenton’s death, Delvin said that Rudy had a very close relationship with his father, who worked for the red cross, when he took care of his mother and appreciated a lot of family. Gaya was part.
“Rudy was part of a loving family, and he was an adorable man,” he said.
“Even when my mother lost the use of her feet, Rudy was helping us and supporting us.”
He said Rudy’s mental health deteriorated after facing serious head injuries in a road attack about 10 years ago, causing weeks in the hospital.
“He was badly battered, he had a dog, and Rudy’s personality at that time changed,” he said.
“He could not really (in the hospital) or could not work, but once he was able to talk a little, he was complaining (about him), saying this to his head. It was that his head did not seem right.
“Then he was complaining that he was listening to voices in his head.”

Delvin claimed that the report of listening to Rudy’s voices “was not taken seriously when she was in the hospital”, when she was difficult even after coming back home.
He said, “He was certainly too much excited, was very much more nature, very sharp,” he said.
“Sometimes he never wanted to speak, (and) just showing signs that things were not right with him.
“We just worked on it and tried to calm him – we tried to help him.”
Brenton and his brother ralled the round to try and support Rudy, who also approached mental health services to support and get support.
Delvin said, “He (Rudy) sat waiting for him to be seen in the hospital – 13 hours on one occasion, five hours on the next – he was trying himself to get help through the system,” said Delvin.
“He knew that something was wrong, but nothing came again.
“They did not get any help, they were never seen in the hospital, and we were just trying to help them.”

Rudy’s condition deteriorated again in 2018 when he was living with his then partner after a better health period, when he started saying that he had a microchip in his head and stabbing the walls at home.
Delvin said that the family was in touch with the Nottinghamshire police on his concerns, which was involved even after an incident in 2019 when the authorities participated with a mental health nurse, who decided that Rudy did not need to be fragmented. .
“I thought something was being done at that point,” he said.
“It was explained to him about their circumstances how he was not under the control of his thoughts and he was very confused, and we thought it was going to recover, but he thought Rudy had no harm to himself And there was no loss public. “
Delvin said that the reaction of the authorities felt the family “completely isolated” and “to go anywhere”, because as their fear.
Rudy’s mental health problems continued, and in August 2022, he stabbed his father 75 times.
“It could have been that I was attacked – Rudy did not know what he was doing,” said Delvin.
“He was just very illusory, because he believed that whatever was going on in his head. No matter what you had said about reality, it had no effect.
“Till that point the services were saying that ‘Okay, she is an adult, he needs to come in himself’, (but) it is too late at that time, they have missed the opportunity.”
‘Hard to understand’
Delvin said he still felt the pain of his brother’s loss, who said he was “more or less a superhero” for the way of taking care of Rudy.
Despite the pain, he says that he forgives his nephew for a “destructive” attack, and was to see him in the hospital.
“This is just a sad, terrible, frightening event,” he said. “I love my nephew, but he killed my brother.
“I have forgiven her, but it is so out of the feelings that it is so difficult to understand it.”
Delvin also indicated Nottingham attackIn which Waldo Calocaine – who has paranoid schizophrenia – killed three people, and said that they could “be” “could” be listened to his family.
“My heart sank when I heard about the Nottingham attacks, because I thought ‘we go here again’,” he said.
“He (Rudy and Callocaine) had mental health conditions, and it was not taken as seriously as it could.”

A domestic murder review in Brenton’s death began on 9 January 2023, and will cover contact with Rudy and family by death from August 2019.
The panel that conducts the review is ready to complete its work this year, and the “learning summary” is published after reviewing the document by the house office.
Delvin hopes that it will bring about the changes required to prevent similar events.
“We don’t want Brent to pass in vain,” he said. “This is something that can happen to any family.
“Even since this attack, many people have come to see me and have talked about their circumstances, which are very similar.
“This is not unison, it’s something that can happen to someone, and it’s something that is still happening.”
The Nottinghamshire police said that this would not comment while the Homicide Review was still happening.
