NHS urges vulnerable people to get Covid and flu vaccinations

People in medically at-risk groups are being urged to get free COVID-19 and flu vaccines this winter.
NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said only 27% of people eligible for a Covid vaccine and 35% of people eligible for a flu vaccine in both areas – as well as Royston in Hertfordshire – had come forward.
More than 68,000 people had not yet had their Covid vaccination and more than 74,000 had not taken up the flu protection offer.
Kelly Makewell, head of vaccination at the local service, said: “It is very important to have these vaccinations because without their protection you increase your risk of becoming seriously ill.”
He added: “Some people may not know they are eligible for these two free vaccines, or may have received them before and think they won’t need them again.
“We have walk-in opportunities throughout the county, with many local pharmacies participating, helping to make opportunities for vaccines more accessible to people. You can still book a vaccine appointment if you prefer. Can do.”

Clinical risk groups include people with conditions that affect breathing, certain heart conditions, kidney or liver disease, diabetes and certain conditions that affect the brain or nerves, such as Parkinson’s. Disease, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy. ,
