A private school in Noida has stirred a controversy by sending a circular to parents via WhatsApp, asking them not to pack non-vegetarian food in their children’s tiffins (packed lunches). The circular was issued by the principal of Delhi Public School (DPS) in Sector 132, Noida. It has sparked a heated debate. After the controversy erupted, the school management clarified that it was only a “request”, reports PTI.

The school circular cites two reasons for the request. It mentions that health and safety are the primary concerns, stating that non-vegetarian food prepared for morning lunch can pose a health risk if not stored and handled properly. It also highlights the importance of “inclusivity and respect”. According to PTI, the circular suggests that the focus is on providing an environment in which everyone feels comfortable so that all students can sit together and eat their meals, regardless of their food preferences.

There has been a mixed response among parents to this circular. According to the report, some parents are in favor of it citing cultural and health reasons, while others believe that it is an infringement on their freedom.
