To promote tourism in the area, Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary Mandsaur Collector Aditi Garg announced this after the inauguration of the Gandhi Sagar Forest Retreat 3.0 program. This development will make Gandhi Sagar the second place in India to host leopards after Kuno National Park.

The forest of this sanctuary is part of the Khathiyar-Gir dry deciduous forest. It was notified in the year 1974 and added to the list of sanctuary in 1984. The forest is also of archaeological and religious importance due to the presence of rock painting sites and famous temples like Chaturbhujnath Temple etc.
At present, discussions are planned between the collectors of Mandsaur and Kota to further enhance the tourism potential in the areas. According to Garg, transformative initiatives are underway at Gandhi Sagar, including the introduction of cheetahs, which will become the second place in the country to house this species after Kuno.
He also talked about the rich archaeological and cultural heritage of the region, which includes some of the popular attractions like Pashupatinath Temple, Chaturbhuj Nala and Hinglaj Temple.
The official website of Madhya Pradesh Tourism states, “This sanctuary is spread in the area around the backwaters of Gandhi Sagar Dam. It is home to some rare wildlife species like wild dogs (dhole), chinkara, leopard, otter, crocodile. Apart from this, we can also see common animals like spotted deer, gray langur etc. While visiting this place, do not miss the Chaturbhuj Nala rock paintings. , which extends over a long distance, is a recommended place to visit.”
