A rare spherical egg has been sold for £200 (approximately Rs 21,500) in Oxfordshire, England. This egg was initially purchased by a man named Ed Pownell, which he donated to the Iuventus Foundation, a non-profit organization. It helps youth with mental health, life coaching and guidance. Rose Rapp, a representative of the foundation, said, “We are extremely happy and thrilled that the egg sold, because it means we can continue our work.” Rose explained that the hen’s egg was just one item in the charity auction, which raised a total of £5,000. The rare egg was originally discovered by a woman in Ayr, Scotland, in a bin at her neighborhood grocery store.
The round egg is considered a “one in a billion” event, according to David Miller, who works at the auction firm Thomson Roddick Callan, where it was first auctioned.
Rose Rapp said, “The money raised will help … 13-25 year olds struggling with their mental health. It will enable us to reach more young people who need support or are on long waiting lists ”

Earlier in November, a piece of cake from the 1947 royal wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was sold at an auction for £2,200 (approximately Rs 2,39,915). The 77-year-old fruitcake, a relic of the original 9-foot-tall, four-tiered masterpiece, came with a personal thank you letter from Queen Elizabeth. The rare piece, soaked in wine and served to more than 2,000 guests at the prestigious celebration, was gifted to Marian Poulson, housekeeper at The Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Marion preserved the piece until her death in the 1980s. After his death, the rare piece was discovered under a bed along with some of his belongings. Earlier this year, his family in Scotland approached auctioneers and the cake was put up for sale. Read more about it here.
