What to do if your flight is delayed or cancelled?
Airlines have specific policies regarding weather-related disruptions. In this scenario, the airlines may allow you to book a different flight at no additional charge, or get reimbursed for it. However, as per the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), passengers have certain rights when it comes to flight delays and cancellations. If you’re traveling in the next few days, read on to find out what your rights are as a passenger if your flights are delayed or cancelled:
flight cancellation
If your flight gets cancelled, as per government rules, airlines have to offer a full ticket refund as well as an alternative flight or compensation. Additionally, passengers who arrive at the airport for their original flight must provide the airline with food and refreshments while waiting for alternative arrangements.

flight delay
In case of delay, airlines must provide food and refreshments, an alternate flight or a full ticket refund. If the delay exceeds a specific period, passengers may also be eligible for hotel accommodation, including transfers, at the airline’s expense.
flight overbooking
When flights are overbooked, the first thing airlines must do is look for volunteers willing to give up their seats. If someone does not come voluntarily, the airline must arrange for an alternative flight within one hour of the original departure time.
If a replacement flight is offered more than 24 hours later, passengers are entitled to compensation equal to 400% of the one-way fare and fuel charges, limited to Rs 20,000.
