Over 212,000 pounds of liquid egg products were remembered due to potential bleach contamination (image credit: istock)
Relative to food safety development, the alternative to liquid eggs over 212,000 pounds voluntarily remembered the possibility of contamination with bleach cleaning solutions. Products sold under popular brand names, including egg beatar and bob evans, may have been brought into contact with sodium hypochlorite, which is commonly used in disinfectant.
After internal investigation, Michigan Lake was recalled by Kargil kitchen solutions located in Odessa, suggested that some products may contain undeclared sodium hypoclorite. This chemical, if the ingestion, can pose health risk â although the Food Safety and Inspection Services of the USDA (FSIS) has stated that the possibility of adverse health effects from contaminated products is negligible.
Which products are affected?
The potentially affected items were produced on 12 and 13, 2025 March, and have been marked with code G1804 on their packaging. Specific products under recall include:
Egg Beater Original Liquid Egg option, 32 ounces., Use by August 10 2025
Use egg beatars cage-free original liquid egg option, 32 ounces., August 09 2025
Egg Beuters Cage-free frozen egg option and no Enjuladas uses the original Susttiuto de Huvo Congress, 32 oz., March 07 2026 till March 07 2026
Bob Evens Betterân Eggs made with real egg white, 32 oz., August 10 2025
FSIS mentioned that the items were sent to retailers in Ohio and Texas, and the food services distributors at Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois and Iowa â although a nationwide distribution could not be denied.
What should consumers do?
If you have any of these products at home, do not consume them. FSIS recommends customers to safely dispose of the product or return to the store for refund. While the risk is low, the intake of sodium hypoclorite can disturb the gastrointestinal tract, and can cause more severe symptoms in high amounts.
How to check if your liquid egg product is safe
Inspection the packaging code: See the code G1804 stamp near the expiration date.
Check the brand and size: Confirm that the product is one of the four listed above, in 32-inges (2LB) in cartons.
Verify âUsesâ: Date Ensure that recall matches list â August 09/10 2025 or March 07 2026.
How to test for bleach contamination at home
While the best is to abandon any remembered product, people eager about testing can use a basic bleach detection method:
Keep a small amount of liquid eggs in a clear glass.
Use chlorine test strip (available on most hardware stores or pool supply shops). Dip the bandage in the sample.
A color change indicating the presence of chlorine may indicate contamination.
Warning: This method is not the option of laboratory testing. Do not taste the product, even if it looks normal, as bleach contamination cannot be visually or olfactable.
Why does it remember
Remember at a time when consumers are moving to egg options due to rising egg prices and bird flu outbreaks, which have disrupted poultry production across the US for many people, products such as egg beatar and Betterân eggs are domestic staples. It is important to ensure their safety.
Kargil said in a recorded message: âWe have released this recall in an abundance of caution.â FSIS confirmed that the public should not take a chance: âWhen in doubt, throw it out.â As the investigation continues, consumers are encouraged to remain updated through the USDA FSIS recall page.
