It is raining heavily in Tamil Nadu. As a result, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning Travel advice for Tamil NaduIt has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall, storm and strong winds in many districts of the state including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and others. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued.

It is being said that right now the weather will be harsh and there is no sign of relief. Passengers have also been advised to postpone their upcoming journeys.

The IMD’s yellow alert indicates rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours, and orange alert means rainfall between 115.5 mm and 204.4 mm. Schools have also been closed in many districts. The following parts of the state will receive heavy rainfall from December 12-17, 2024.

• 12th December: Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region.
• 13 december: Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Kanyakumari.
• 14th December: Puducherry and Karaikal region.
• 15th December: Puducherry and Karaikal region.
• 16th December: Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
• 17th December: Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Travelers have been asked to avoid traveling to the above mentioned areas to stay safe.
