A task force representing the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana inspected a hospital canteen in Kukatpally area of ​​Hyderabad on October 8, 2024. The officials visited Sri Sri Satvahar Stores, which is the central canteen of Sri Sri Samagra Hospitals, after receiving a complaint. Serious food safety concerns and sanitation deficiencies were revealed at the establishment. The team observed rat feces on shelves inside the store and thus suspected rat infestation on the premises. He also noted an infestation of live cockroaches in the store room.

The grinding area was considered “highly unsanitary”. Plaster was seen falling off from the kitchen ceiling. The task force discovered several expired food items including spice powder, brown sugar, paprika powder, dark chocolate compound and filter coffee. These articles were immediately rejected. It appears that there was a problem with some essential records also. When the inspection took place the establishment did not have the required pest control and medical health certificates. It also did not display the true copy of its FSSAI license on the premises. However, water analysis reports and food testing reports were available. Additionally, the team found that food handlers in the canteen were wearing hair caps and aprons.

Earlier on October 8, the task force had inspected the Konark Tea Complex in Fatehnagar. The officials found that “loose tea powder was being adulterated here and then packed and sent to various tea stalls in and around Hyderabad.” He revealed that “a large quantity of adulteration was found and seized from the premises”.
