Real life weight loss story, Obesity in children has been on the rise for quite some time now due to various reasons including poor lifestyle habits, genetics and other factors. Some children start gaining weight at a very young age and face health problems later in life. For 40-year-old photographer, director and writer Amit Khanna, fighting obesity was more than just a problem. weight loss Challenge—It was a lifelong struggle. Weighing over 200 kg at the age of 16, Amit’s fitness journey has been full of ups and downs. But now his weight is at his healthiest – 71 kg. how did he do it? In an exclusive interview with Times Now, he explained how he was able to achieve such a huge feat. weight loss transformation,
Amit’s relationship with his weight began in his childhood when he was labeled a “fat kid” early on. By adolescence, their weight had skyrocketed, and attempts to lose weight often met with temporary success, only to be followed by further weight gain. “I tried everything – diets, fads, exercise and even surgery – but every time I lost weight, it came back with a vengeance. My struggle became especially intense when I got infected with COVID-19 four times due to obesity, which took a toll on my health,” he shared.
In February 2023, weighing more than 120 kg, Amit finally decided to work out under the guidance of fitter Harshal Milani. With their support, he followed a structured calorie deficit plan, walked 10,000 steps a day and maintained a workout routine. “I lost over 50 kilograms in 20 months and am now at the healthiest weight of my life,” he said.
What inspired you to set out on this journey?
After battling obesity for decades, what motivated Amit most was his desire to experience a life he didn’t know – a life of energy, mobility and freedom. “I wanted to live fully and do the things I missed seeing as a kid. Harshal’s approach, which felt achievable and sustainable, ultimately gave me the confidence to fully commit to a healthy life,” he shared.
“At my heaviest, I weighed over 200 kg, and at the start of this journey in 2023, I weighed a little over 120 kg. Today, I weigh 71 kg, which is my lowest weight since I was 10 years old,” said Amit.
This change took them 20 months from February 2023 till now. However, his struggle with weight has been lifelong. He’s been working on losing weight, in some form or another, since he was a teenager, but sooner or later the weight will creep back up.
“One of the biggest challenges was to break free from the cycle of weight loss and weight gain. I had to overcome the mindset that any success would be temporary. Also, my work schedule as a photographer and director is quite irregular, so sticking to a structured diet and workout plan was tough initially. But I found ways to make it work for me,” says Amit.
How have you stayed motivated throughout your life? weight loss journey,
His enthusiasm grew after seeing the results, especially when he lost 6 kg in the first month itself. For the first time he did not feel any shortage. Her fitter coach incorporated adequate food and manageable exercise into her busy schedule. Each small victory reminded Amit that his goal was achievable. Plus, the idea of living a healthier, more active life — finally doing the things he missed as a child — motivated him to stay on track.
Diet and exercise followed during transformation
Diet: Amit’s calorie intake started at 2200 calories and gradually decreased to an average of 1600–1800 calories, occasionally reaching 1350 calories. His diet was balanced, containing adequate amounts of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Importantly, they never completely eliminated any food group, ensuring a sustainable approach.
Exercise: Amit’s fitness routine includes 10,000 daily steps, weight training four times a week, yoga, Mudgar swing, trampoline exercises and even creative workouts like flips and jumps. Recently he has also included running in his diet.
Faced setbacks in weight loss transformation
Like any long-term journey, Amit faced setbacks – mainly mental. “After every attempt to lose weight, I was afraid of gaining it back,” he admits. The effects of being infected with COVID-19 at times were another significant hurdle.
However, with the right guidance and a realistic plan, Amit learned to adapt rather than give up. “This time, I focused on consistency. When things got tough, I found ways to adjust rather than give up,” he says.
What advice do you have for others who want to embark on a similar transformation journey?
“My biggest advice is to be patient and find a sustainable approach that works for you. Quick fixes aren’t permanent, and they can lead to frustration. Whether it’s a coach, a coach, or a support system, it’s important to have the right guidance and focus on small, achievable goals. Every bit of progress counts. Instead of focusing on losing weight, it is important to focus on getting fit and that was the only mindset I kept,” he said.
life after change
The impact of Amit’s transformation goes beyond physical appearance. “My life has completely changed,” he said. From running and jumping on the trampoline to learning flips, Amit is experiencing a physical freedom he never had before.
“I feel like I’m living moments that I missed my entire life,” he reflects. His enthusiasm for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and his gratitude to those who support him have given Amit a new outlook on life and health.
