Anya Parashar’s weight loss journey has been full of ups and downs. At the age of 15, she was diagnosed with PCOS, which made losing weight even more difficult. “I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15, and my doctor just told me to lose weight, even though I had never been overweight. At that time I knew the only way to lose weight was to exercise, so that’s what I did. But this did not improve my condition, even though I managed to lose 3-4 kg. For the next few years I managed to survive by exercising intensely,” she said.
Consistency is the key to losing weight, but maintaining consistency is not always possible. Anya took leave in 2018 for her board exams but it started taking a toll on her health. Due to stressful eating habits and lack of exercise, his weight increased by 15 kg and he weighed almost 70 kg. This came as a turning point in his life and he decided to take charge of it. “I started working out again, but this time no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get back into shape. In 2019, I became enlightened about nutrition and what role it plays in weight loss, something I never really knew about. I started eating properly instead of eating less. “By adequate nutrition and moderate strength training, I managed to lose 20 kg in a year,” she said.
The biggest challenges faced during the weight loss transformation journey
Anya was struggling with weight loss due to PCOS. He tried everything but nothing worked. As well as PCOS, she also struggled with severe body dysmorphia and gut health issues, which made her transformation even worse.
How did you stay motivated during your weight loss journey?
Anya shares that her ultimate goal was her only motivation to succeed in this journey. “To be honest, there is no such thing as inspiration. The end goal should be your only motivation. And once you start seeing the results of your hard work, that’s all the motivation you need,” she said.
Can you tell us about your diet and exercise during your transformation?
To lose weight, Anya included a lot of fiber in her diet to keep herself full. “I followed a low-fat high-fibre diet with moderate protein and complexes at that time because my cholesterol levels were elevated and I needed that fiber to keep myself satiated. I also lifted weights 4-5 days a week with minimal cardio,” she says.
How did you deal with setbacks?
Anya’s mantra was: never give up. This approach helped her face all the obstacles and she emerged victorious. “There were a lot of failures, it was a very long journey. Getting regular periods was a victory in itself. I always knew in my heart what I wanted to be and I never really gave up on my dream of how I wanted to see myself as a strong, independent and healthy woman,” she shares.
What advice do you have for others who want to embark on a similar transformation journey?
“Not understanding the role of nutrition was my biggest mistake when it comes to weight loss and health in general and that’s why it took me so long to understand the right way to lose weight. So my advice would be to tell them that it’s not just about calories. Nutrition is the biggest contributing factor in deciding long-term success and failure in your weight loss journey,” she shares.
How has your life changed since achieving your weight loss goals?
Weight loss changes not only the way you look but also your mindset. After achieving her weight loss goal, everything has changed for Anya. “Everything has changed, from the way I live to the way I eat, how I look at food and how I look at myself as a person. I have started respecting myself and my body more and people have started respecting me more for my achievements. I view food as a nutritious fuel for my body rather than a source of pleasure. It has also helped in increasing my confidence levels, it has made me believe that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to. And every day of my life I am living 15-year-old Anya’s dream life,” she shares.
