scenic Mangan District In SikkimYumthang, home to breathtaking destinations like Dikchu and Lachung, is all set to welcome tourists again from December 1. The iconic destination is being opened after a long gap of five months due to devastating landslides caused by heavy rains.
These landslides damaged roads and bridges on the North Sikkim Highway, making it unsafe for visitors.
The decision to gradually reopen the district was taken by CS Rao, principal secretary of the tourism and civil aviation department. He stressed the importance of guaranteeing access and security. According to media reports, he said, āAfter examining the current situation and road conditions in Mangan district, it has been decided to allow tourists in a graded manner.ā
Efforts to repair these damaged areas are being made by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). Many officials have appreciated the smooth action of BRO in making the roads motorable as soon as possible. These efforts highlight the importance of tourism to the local economy and also demonstrate a strong commitment to welcoming travelers to the region.
With the reopening, a large influx of tourists is expected in Mangan district. Some of the major sites include Guru Dongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. There is also the Yumthang Valley, which is often known as the āValley of Flowersā and offers stunning views.
