This year India will celebrate its 78th anniversary of Independence. The entire nation is filled with pride and enthusiasm when the tricolour is hoisted at the Red Fort. On this occasion, let’s find out about the 5 tallest flags in the country. From Attari border in Punjab to Bhakti Shakti in Pune – these are some of the places home to the tallest flags. Take a look.

Belgaum, Karnataka

Belagavi or Belgaum Fort in Kote Kere, Karnataka, boasts of the tallest Indian flagpoles. They are 110 metres or 361 feet tall. As always, the tricolour flutters there in all its glory. The flagpole was unveiled by district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi in 2018. The flagpole is made using weatherproof denier polyester fabric.

Attari Border, Punjab

Attari Border is a major tourist attraction of Punjab. It is known for its geographical importance and is located between India and Pakistan. Also known as Wagah Border, this place attracts hundreds of tourists daily to watch the evening show. There is a 360 feet or 110 meter high Indian national flag which was hoisted here by the then Punjab Minister Anil Joshi in 2017. The width of the flag is 24 meters and it weighs 55 tons.

Bhakti Shakti, Pune

The Bhakti Shakti flag located in Nigdi was installed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in 2018. The 107-metre or 351-feet tall flagpole weighs 42 tonnes and the flag is made of woven polyester. It is said that the flag can withstand winds of up to 25 kilometres per hour.

Guwahati

Not many people know that Guwahati has the fourth tallest national flag which was unveiled on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This 319.5 feet high flag is worth seeing at the top of Sarania Hill at Gandhi Mandap, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Many tourists visit it regularly to see it.

Kolhapur

Kolhapur is known for the fifth tallest flagpole in India. Here, the Indian flag flutters at a height of 303 feet. This flag is located in the Police Garden of Kasaba Bavda and was hoisted on Maharashtra Day. The flagpole here is 90 meters high and weighs 24 tons.
