In short

  • Excessive heat intensifies a person’s biological age
  • A biological age measures body functions at molecular and cellular levels
  • Heat causes epignetic changes in the body

Excessive heat can occur after a person’s age, a new study has shown. Research conducted in the US suggested that old adults living in hot areas showed rapid aging at molecular levels compared to people living in coolers.

The authors of the study, published in the magazine Science Advanced of the study, revealed more biological aging among individuals living in warm places. According to the study, biological age is a solution to how well the body works at the level of molecular, cellular and system, as unlike colonial age based on one’s date of birth.

While exposure to excessive heat is associated with negative health consequences, in which the risk of death increases, the stringent of the heat is not clear for biological aging.

“This is actually about the combination of heat and humidity, especially for older adults, because older adults do not sweat in the same way. We begin to lose their ability to lose the skin-cooling effect, which comes from the evaporation of sweat,” Jennifer Aleshire, senior writer and USC Lyonard Deavis School at Garon The professor told.

The authors investigated how the biological age changed for over 3,600 American inhabitants aged 56 and above. During the six -year study period, blood samples were taken at various time points and analyzed for epigenetic changes – a procedure called DNA methylonation, in which genes are “closed” or “turned on”.

“Extreme heat effects may not be seen immediately as a diagnosis health status, but it can take a silent toll at cellular and molecular levels,” said the lead writer of the study and a postdotoral associate at the University of Southern California, but it may develop in disability and disease after years, “the lead author of the study and a postdotory at Dakshin California.

The authors compared blood samples with a measure of heat index data, temperature and humidity between 2010 and 2016.

He found that a person living in a place where the heat index is 32 ° C or above for half a year, which experiences biological aging for 14 months compared to a person where the hot days were less than 10.

According to the researchers, the next plan of action is to determine other factors that can make someone more weak for biological aging and how it can connect with clinical consequences.
