Struggle with arthritis pain? The study says that yoga power can only be powerful as training.
A new study from the University of Tasmania suggests that yoga is effective as strength training in relieving osteoarthritis pain of the knee. Published in Jama Network Open, the study found that the pain in both workouts reduced, but yoga was better adhered to, making it a permanent long -term option for arthritis management.

Strength training has long been measures to improve osteoarthritis pain and improve joint health. But a new study from the University of Tasmania published in the Jama Network Open suggests that yoga can be equally effective in relieving arthritis symptoms – perhaps even more durable in the long run.
The clinical trial, which spread to 24 weeks, focused on comparing the effectiveness of yoga and power training in reducing osteoarthritis pain of the knee. Researchers enrolled 117 adults, most of them with an average age of 62.5 years (72.6%). All the participants had revealed moderate knee osteoarthritis.
To assess the results, participants were randomly divided into two groups: a structured yoga was engaged in routine, while the other followed a standard power training program. Both groups maintained a similar schedule -supervision group session and one home session per week for the first 12 weeks, followed by three domestic seasons per week for the remaining 12 weeks.
By the end of the test, both groups reported significant reduction in pain and improvement in physical function and mood. However, a remarkable difference emerged- follow. Participants in the yoga group were more likely to live with their routine, with a 70.2% rearing rate compared to 60% in the Shakti Training Group. This suggests that yoga can be more durable and user friendly options for long -term arthritis management, especially when done at home.
The study authors said, “We envisaged that yoga would demonstrate better efficacy in patients with reducing joint pain and strengthening exercise in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee and improving the quality of life.”
