Surgeon Care 800 patients amid concerns

Care obtained by 800 patients at a world-famous NHS Hospital has been reviewed after suspending an expert surgeon by specialist physicians.

An initial review by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) revealed that the treatment provided to nine children was âbelow the standard we would expectâ.
The Trust Chief Executive Officer, Rolland Sinkar, said that surgeons specialize in children, but also performed emergency orthopedic procedures on adults.
The review will assess the treatment given to 700 patients who planned to operate, and there was emergency treatment of other 100 adults and baby patients.
Andrew Kennedy Casey has been appointed by the trust to preside over a panel of specialist physicians to conduct the outer -exclusive clinical review by the trust.
He said: âWe will make tireless efforts to investigate all matters within the scope of this review and to ensure that any shortcomings in care are identified as soon as possible so that patients and families are fully informed and further consultations and treatment can be introduced properly.â

Trustâs confirmed concerns were raised about the surgeonâs work in early 2015, which is not being nominated for legal reasons.
It was the subject of an external clinical review in 2016.
The clinical practice of the surgeon was banned as a precautionary measure last year and has been collaborating with the trust since his suspension.
CUH has commissioned the expert investigation company Verita to conduct an independent investigation into whatever was known about the practice of the surgeon âand what were the opportunity to identify these issues soonâ, said this.
Shri Sinkar said: âWe are very sorry that this has happened and we apologize unreserved to our patients and their families.
âWe understand the crisis and anxiety that families are experiencing and we want to do everything to support them through this period.â
He said that a nominated family contact officer has been âappointed as a point of continuity for patients and familiesâ.
