Imagine to imagine living with not one, not two, not two, but with five kidneys! After undergoing a rare third kidney transplant at Amrita Hospital in Faridabad, the same happened with 47 -year -old DRDO scientist Devendra Barlewar. The process, which was completed on January 8, 2025, has given him a new lease on life after years of battling chronic kidney disease.
The health journey of Hopedevendra finally ends 15 years of struggle, but anything has been easy. Their troubles started in 2008 when he detected high blood pressure, which later caused chronic kidney disease. In 2010, he reduced his first kidney transplant, only to fail for it. There was a second transplant in 2012, but it also did not run. To make things worse, the Covid-19 infection in 2022 further weakened its delicate condition, depending on dialysis to survive.
For years, he discovered a solution, but most of the hospitals removed him due to his complexity of his case. When Amrita Hospital stepped and challenged a third transplant – a rare and highly complex process.
Like someone else like a life saving surgery
The four -hour long operation was performed by a team of specialist doctors, with Dr. Anil Sharma and Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Senior Advisor in Urology, Dr. Sameer Bhat, Head of Cardiac Surgery and Dr. Kunal Raj Gandhi, a nephrology expert. , The thing to make this surgery extraordinary was that Devendra’s body had already placed four kidney-two non-non-non-Kakshkaji native kidneys and two failed transplanted people. The existing non-functional kidneys did not interfere with the body’s immune response, ensuring that the new, working kidney was strategically placed.
Dr. Anil Sharma said, “Surgery, it was one of the most challenging cases we have handled.” “The patient’s lean body and previous surgical history made it difficult to find a place for the new kidney. In addition, we had to carefully connect the organ to the blood vessels, as their previous surgery used standard people. ,
Dr. Kamal said, “With four existing kidney, the risk of rejection was high. We had to create a special immunosuration protocol to prevent complications. ,
Recovery and a new beginning
Devendra was discharged within ten days of surgery. Their creatinine levels stabilized within two weeks, and most importantly they no longer need dialysis. Expressing his gratitude, he said, “After two unsuccessful transplants, I lost all hope. It was difficult to depend on dialysis. But thanks to the doctors at Amrita Hospital, I can now live independently again. This transplant did not just save my life – it gave me back its freedom. ,
None of these 50 -year -old farmer would have been possible without a selfless decision of the family, when it was declared the brain to donate his organs after declaring him dead. His generosity not only saved Devendra’s life, but also showed how to give a second chance to organ.
