The Government of India is exploring the option of building a 7-8 km long twin-tube tunnel through the Kela Pass. According to media reports, a proposal in this regard has been made by the Union Territory Ladakh Administration. If this initiative is taken forward, the tunnel will ensure hassle-free travel of visitors and the army from Leh to Pangong.
The report further states that the tunnel aims to provide all-weather connectivity. This will also increase mobility for civilians and military personnel. If approved, the Kela Pass Tunnel will be in line with broader strategic goals to improve access into Ladakh.
