A mental health nurse who said of vulnerable patients “I would have drowned him at birth” and “take him to the vet and get him treated” has been sacked.

Kathleen Alexandra Warmington was given a dismissal order by the Nursing and Midwifery Council for serious misconduct.

The community mental health practitioner, who worked in Northamptonshire, admitted making a number of “inappropriate comments” between August and November 2022.

She was suspended for an initial 18 months which will be replaced by a permanent suspension, although she can choose to appeal.

The hearing was told that Warmington’s conduct became a cause for concern after he made a number of comments about patients and colleagues.

Talking about one service user he said, “Take him to the vet and get him put down” and added that another needed to “get a grip”.

The nurse, with 20 years’ experience in mental health, called another patient a “naughty girl”, and said she was lucky to be given medication.

She also told another that “being sad is a choice” and said “I’m not a fan of it” when discussing ADHD with a patient.

The nurse told another co-worker, “If she were my daughter, I would drown her at birth” in reference to the person she was assigned to care for.

On another occasion he told a colleague to “kiss my white**” – a comment he made as a “joke” in an attempt to fit in after coming home from a private hospital.

Finally, Mrs. Warmington also suggested that a patient might go to a crisis home, even if doing so was not considered medically appropriate.

After being told that such entry would not be allowed, it told the user that there are no beds available in the crisis home, although this is not true.

The panel concluded that Mrs Warmington’s ability to practice was impaired, she had committed malpractice, and her actions had put patients at “undue risk of harm”.
