The nurse said that she might have drowned the patient at birth
A mental health nurse who said of vulnerable patients âI would have drowned him at birthâ and âtake him to the vet and get him treatedâ has been sacked.
Kathleen Alexandra Warmington was given a dismissal order by the Nursing and Midwifery Council for serious misconduct.
The community mental health practitioner, who worked in Northamptonshire, admitted making a number of âinappropriate commentsâ between August and November 2022.
She was suspended for an initial 18 months which will be replaced by a permanent suspension, although she can choose to appeal.
The hearing was told that Warmingtonâs conduct became a cause for concern after he made a number of comments about patients and colleagues.
Talking about one service user he said, âTake him to the vet and get him put downâ and added that another needed to âget a gripâ.
The nurse, with 20 yearsâ experience in mental health, called another patient a ânaughty girlâ, and said she was lucky to be given medication.
She also told another that âbeing sad is a choiceâ and said âIâm not a fan of itâ when discussing ADHD with a patient.
The nurse told another co-worker, âIf she were my daughter, I would drown her at birthâ in reference to the person she was assigned to care for.
âDanger of harmâ
On another occasion he told a colleague to âkiss my white**â â a comment he made as a âjokeâ in an attempt to fit in after coming home from a private hospital.
Finally, Mrs. Warmington also suggested that a patient might go to a crisis home, even if doing so was not considered medically appropriate.
After being told that such entry would not be allowed, it told the user that there are no beds available in the crisis home, although this is not true.
The panel concluded that Mrs Warmingtonâs ability to practice was impaired, she had committed malpractice, and her actions had put patients at âundue risk of harmâ.
Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has been contacted for comment.
