Being a part of a country that has the most admirable railway network, it is strange to not have a single railway station in such a popular state. But why is it so?
Sikkim’s rugged terrain, strategic location and numerous geographical challenges have been part of the problem. Although the views are mesmerizing, they also have a downside – steep valleys, narrow passes and high mountains. This area is also extremely sensitive to landslides and seismic activity. Meaning, building a railway line here is extremely challenging and impractical.
However, the situation is going to change now as PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Sikkim’s inaugural railway station on February 26. On the occasion, Deputy Railway Manager, Alipurduar, Amarjeet Aggarwal highlighted the dual importance of Rangpo station for Sikkim and India. , He also informed that the railway station will serve both tourism and defense purposes.

Kathok Lake, which is located near the famous town of Yuksom in West Sikkim, is a serene place. This small but beautiful lake is surrounded by lush greenery and is attached to the historical coronation site of the first Chogyal (King) of Sikkim.
