“GERD can affect people of any age group, although its incidence increases with age due to muscle dysfunction,” says Dr. Sehrawat. “Although it is less common in children, we also see cases in school-going children.”
Symptoms of GERD include food particles coming back into the mouth or esophagus, heartburn, pain while swallowing, vomiting, frequent coughing, frequent sore throat, and pain in the upper stomach.
Dr. Sehrawat gives important advice to manage GERD lifestyle changessuch as eating a healthy and balanced diet DietAvoid spicy, oily and heavy foods and maintain a normal weight with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or less. “Regular exercise is important and it is advisable to raise the head of the bed and avoid lying down for 1-2 hours after meals,” he advises. Additionally, meals should be small and divided into several portions throughout the day. It should be taken while consuming alcohol should be avoided as it worsens the symptoms.
If lifestyle changes do not reduce symptoms, Dr. Sehrawat suggests treatments including syrups, tablets, and advanced endoscopic or surgical treatments. “GERD can be cured with the right approach, starting with lifestyle and diet changes. medical treatmentAnd in some cases, surgery,” He says.
GERD can have a significant impact on daily life. Dr Sehrawat says persistent symptoms can lead to difficulty concentrating, professional inefficiency and irritability.
