Digital devices damage young eyes
Dr. According to Singh, the use of excessive screen is one of the greatest convicts. She explains, “The heavy use of computers, laptops and phones for studies, working and even entertainment is leading to heavy stress on the eyes,” she explains. Young Indians are now spending several hours every day, who are looking at the screen, often without taking a break. It can cause symptoms like headache, stress in the eye, dryness and even blurred vision.
Low outdoor time, more eye issues
Another major factor is a decline in physical activity, especially time spent out. “Children and teenagers who play regularly are less likely to develop myopia (proximity),” Dr. Singh says. She says that coming into contact with sunlight and focusing on distant objects during platim can support healthy eye development, fail to provide some indoor activities.
Poor diet is taking a toll
Changes towards processed foods and junk diet are also affecting eye health. Dr. Singh said, “A balanced diet rich in omega -3 fatty acids, vitamin A and antioxidants is necessary to maintain good vision.” However, many youth today remember these nutrients, putting them at risk for dry eyes and conditions such as blindness of early nights.
Risk of decorative contact lens and cosmetic eye treatment
The use of decorative lenses and eye enhancing cosmetic processes has also increased, especially among urban youth. Dr. Singh warned, “These cosmetic trends often ignore the importance of proper hygiene and care. Improper use can cause corneal damage, infection and severe dryness.”
Pollution and urban eye stress
India’s high pollution levels combine the problem. Prolonged contact for polluted air, dust and UV rays can cause irritation and increase the risk of infection. “People in cities often complain of constant eye problems due to pollution,” Dr. Singh says.
