Offering breathtaking views, dense forests and a thrilling hiking experience, this trek starts from Kukke Subramaniam, an ancient temple situated at the foothills of the mountains, and covers a distance of about 22 kilometers in two days. This route involves a steep climb through dense forests, leading to beautiful grasslands, and ends at the summit of Kumara Parvat (1,712 m).
The journey can be divided into two phases:
Kukke means Bhattara: This section passes through dense forests and offers a moderately challenging climb of about 6 kilometers, which may take 3-4 hours. Bhattara Mane is a popular rest stop where trekkers can stay overnight. Here you can take photographs at the local viewpoint and deposit your luggage at the forest office before starting your final climb the next day. Accommodation arrangements have been made at Bhatta House. You will have to give him information about your accommodation and food so that he can be prepared.

Bhattara Mane Ko Kumar mountain peak, The more difficult section involves a steep climb through grasslands, rocks and shola forests, requiring an additional 5–6 hours of trekking. You first reach Shesh Parvat, from where Kumar Parvat peak is finally visible. It is the second highest point on the route, and offers a stunning view, although the actual summit is about a kilometer further. The final climb allows trekkers to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills and even the peaks of Coorg, if the sky is clear.

Can one trek Kumar Parvat?
No, this is not a beginner friendly trek so it is advised that only experienced individuals undertake this trek. Steep rocks, steep climbs and slippery ground make it a tough challenge for trekking beginners.
Health: It is essential to have good patience and stamina due to the steep slopes and length of the trek.
Permit: As the journey passes through protected areas, obtain a forest permit.
Guides and Essentials: If planning to stay overnight carry enough water, food and camping gear. You can also rent tents at Bhattara Mane. However, you can pitch your tent only in the designated area around the forest office.

How to reach Kumar Parvat?
Kukke Subramanya is 280 km from Bengaluru and 105 km from Mangaluru (nearest airport). Subramaniam Road Railway Station is 12 kilometers from Kukke Subramaniam. Limited bus services are available to reach Kukke Subramaniam from Mangaluru or Bengaluru.

Comment: Due to fear of forest fire and slippery slopes, the forest department closes the area to visitors from March 1 to September 30 every year.
