Two passengers took Pondicherry on Instagram to be an unsafe destination for women. However, social media was divided with this decision, some with calling tourists to ruin this city
Those who affect the two traveling feel that Pondicharry is the most vulnerable city for women, but do you agree?
Pondicherry-a fascinating French-inspired coastal city, known for its stunning beaches, French cafes, and spiritual retreat, which is a dear destination for long-term single travelers. But recently, two travel -affected, Sony Saloni and Tarana Chauhan provoked an unexpected debate by saying one of the most unsafe cities for women in India. Their claim? Repeated examples of people trying to take their photos and videos without consent and a holistic uncomfortable vibe. But is it just an isolated experience, or Pondi is not really behind the walls of your pastel?
Is Pondicherry unsafe for women?
A user shared an experience similar to Saloni and Tarana. “As soon as I saw the question, my answer was Pondicherry! Creepy vibes, arrogant people, unwanted videos and photo shoots. I worked with a guide that is a government employee. I had already hosted 3 groups with him and the 4th one was about to begin. He called me to meet me at night for drinks at his home. He said that his wife would be home but obviously I said no and met him in the hotel restaurant. He was constantly motivating me to drink drinks with him. It was very scary, and those 20-25 minutes were felt in hell forever! Fortunately, he never had to work again with him and blocked him everywhere. But this was an experience during my early travel days and it took a huge toll on me for months! ,
Many women passengers visited Pondicherry and shared their personal experiences
Not everyone agrees with the perspective of the affected. Many single female travelers and local people argue that Pondicherry is safe (or unsafe) like any other Indian city, it depends on how you navigate it. This is why another user criticized the affected to call Pondicherry as unsafe, and instead, blamed the passengers. “Calling my hometown ‘the most unsafe place’? It’s a little … Tourists have done a good job to ruin this beautiful place. It’s a access!”
It is disappointing to hear about women facing uncomfortable circumstances while traveling, and that they did not have a separate event. While some areas of Pondicherry may feel insecure, many users believe that making the entire city dangerous can be an overlapping for women. Do you think Pondicherry is entitled to this reputation, or was it just an unfortunate situation for these affected people?
