When stress decreases, emotional food becomes a copy system for many people, but what if we tell you that it is quietly affecting your fertility?
Emotional food is a common reaction of many people to deal with excessive stress. Many people turn to food for rest or to deal with stressful situations. Eating excessive sugar, sodium, preservative, or high calorie processed or junk foods can help reduce your stress for time, but it can negatively disrupt hormone production, resulting in an imbalance.
Unhealthy eating habits and options can cause a lot of damage to your body as much as you can feel. Dr. Varsha Aggarwal, advisor – fertility and IVF experts, maternity fertility and IVF, Noida, explains, “It can cause weight gain, insulin resistance, and hormonal imbalance that can intervene with further ovulation and menstrual regularity.

How does an emotional eating cause fertility?

Hormonal imbalance: Emotional food, especially which include foods that are high in sugar, calories, sodium and unhealthy fats, can cause insulin resistance. High insulin levels in the body can negatively inhibit the production of reproductive hormones. It can highly affect ovulation can either irregular it or stop it completely.

  • Rawness: Emotional eating can often increase excessive weight, which can lead to more weight easily. Obesity is associated with infertility due to additional production of estrogen. On the other hand, restrictive food or dramatic accident diet can cause excessive weight loss that can affect your ovulation affecting your probability of successful conception.
  • Cortisol levels rose: Excessive stress can trigger the release of cortisol hormones. When high for long periods it can suppress the production of reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This unhealthy imbalance can cause irregular periods and can also affect your fertility.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) risk: Unhealthy eating habits can contribute to insulin resistance due to emotional food, which is an important factor in PCOS. Women who are diagnosed with PCOS are more likely to experience irregularities in their menstrual cycle, ovarian ulcers, and also have difficulty in conceiving even after continuous efforts due to unbalanced hormones.
