Jammu and Kashmir received snowfall for the first time – ending a two-month drought – and bringing much-needed relief to the locals. Residents of the area were finally relieved as the snowfall brought an end to the prolonged dry season that had adversely affected the agricultural sector. The fresh snowfall also brought a wave of hope as a thin blanket of snow covered the hills of Kashmir.
A large number of tourists from across the country visit Kashmir every year to see snow. Last year, Guldanda meadow, located along the Bhaderwah-Basohli-Pathankot highway, emerged as a favorite snow destination due to the abundant snowfall in October.
Meanwhile, so far, the higher reaches in Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall while the plains received rain. Due to this the roads have been temporarily closed. Many people shared pictures and videos of the snowfall on their official social media handles.
“Welcome Snow! The first snowfall of the season occurred in Jammu and Kashmir today. It’s time to pack your bags and head to the winter wonderland,” Jammu and Kashmir Tourism wrote while sharing a picture of snow-clad mountains.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Center in Srinagar has predicted cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or snowfall at isolated places. However, mainly dry weather is expected to persist across the region until the end of November.
