It erupted 17 times on Tuesday, with the tallest ash plume reaching a height of 9 kilometers (5.5 miles), according to the Center for Volcanology. Flights at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport have been disrupted due to volcanic activity, affecting 84 flights over the past four days, including 36 departures and 48 arrivals, according to airport manager Ahmad Sayugi Shahab. Although flights have now resumed, it is wise to postpone your Bali plans by a few days.

South Africa

South Africa has declared a national disaster after severe flooding and storms from October 22 to 29 caused significant damage in several provinces, including the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The declaration allows the government to allocate funds for relief efforts. According to the National Disaster Management Centre, the extreme weather caused damage to property, infrastructure and disrupted services. At least 10 people were killed and hundreds displaced in the Eastern Cape alone, eNCA reports.

Delhi

Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) has fallen to dangerous levels, making the city’s air dangerous to breathe. AQI readings have repeatedly crossed the 400 mark in many areas, with the dense haze reducing visibility and posing serious health risks. Suffocating pollution from seasonal stubble burning, vehicular emissions and industrial activities has blanketed the city in toxic smog. Residents are facing respiratory problems, eye irritation and fatigue, with vulnerable groups like children and the elderly being more at risk.
