UPSC aspirant was diagnosed with cancer Pilonidal Sinus It is a painful condition that was first identified during World War II. The 21-year-old student was treated at a private hospital in Delhi. According to PTI, Tarun Mittal of the laparoscopic and laser surgery department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said that the condition probably developed because the student used to sit for hours on library chairs and study. Eventually, he started experiencing painful swelling in his buttock crevice.
The condition worsened, the pus discharge increased and he was eventually bedridden due to unbearable pain, he said, āConsidering his condition, we opted for EPSIT (Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Tract Ablation Surgery) as the ideal solution for the student so that he could recover quickly and get back to his studies as soon as possible,ā said Mittal, who performed the surgery.
Mittal said, āThe scope is inserted into the tract and thoroughly examined for hair, which is removed with the help of grasping forceps. After removing all the hair and debris, a cautery is inserted to cauterize the entire tract, and then a brush is used to curettage the tract. It took about 30 minutes to remove all the hair from the cavity.ā The entire tract is then cauterized to remove any remaining debris, and a brush is used for curettage.

- Blood and pus oozing from the wound site
