An X post about certain policies for Swiggy agents has sparked a heated debate online. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union has called out the food delivery giant for charging money for the T-shirts, bags and raincoats worn by its workers. These kit items have Swiggyâs name written on them and can therefore be considered a form of branding. The post includes screenshots that show the price of these items. According to the pictures, a Swiggy raincoat costs Rs 749, while the bag costs Rs 299 after discount (the original price is stated to be Rs 899). A âSwiggy kitâ, which includes two shirts and a bag, costs Rs 1199.

In the second screenshot, we see Swiggyâs instructions to agents that it is mandatory for them to carry branded bags. According to the text in the photo, non-compliance will attract a penalty. It also underlines, âCarrying Swiggy bags is of utmost importance to ensure hygienic deliveries.â Also, if the bag gets damaged or lost, agents must buy a replacement themselves. The caption of the post reads, âDear @Swiggy, why are delivery staff being charged for bags, raincoats and t-shirts advertising your brand? If itâs promoting #Swiggy, they shouldnât have to pay for it.â

To prevent abuse! You can give anything for free to people who are not working for Swiggy! Also to keep an eye on them! I know it sounds bad, but I think thatâs the logic! â Radiking đ¤´.Monad đ (@radikingjo) July 24, 2024
What a shame! I thought Swiggy provides this to its delivery partners but this is ridiculous. â ನಿರŕłŕ˛ŕłŕ˛ľŕ˛ż (@OntiJeevi) July 24, 2024
