  • The post accused the company of charging money from its agents for the kits
  • Find out more about it below

An X post about certain policies for Swiggy agents has sparked a heated debate online. The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union has called out the food delivery giant for charging money for the T-shirts, bags and raincoats worn by its workers. These kit items have Swiggy’s name written on them and can therefore be considered a form of branding. The post includes screenshots that show the price of these items. According to the pictures, a Swiggy raincoat costs Rs 749, while the bag costs Rs 299 after discount (the original price is stated to be Rs 899). A “Swiggy kit”, which includes two shirts and a bag, costs Rs 1199.

In the second screenshot, we see Swiggy’s instructions to agents that it is mandatory for them to carry branded bags. According to the text in the photo, non-compliance will attract a penalty. It also underlines, “Carrying Swiggy bags is of utmost importance to ensure hygienic deliveries.” Also, if the bag gets damaged or lost, agents must buy a replacement themselves. The caption of the post reads, “Dear @Swiggy, why are delivery staff being charged for bags, raincoats and t-shirts advertising your brand? If it’s promoting #Swiggy, they shouldn’t have to pay for it.”

Do delivery partners have to buy these? I thought these were given for free by Swiggy. — Biryani Undha 🍗🥘 (@baeforbiryani) July 24, 2024

This really means a lot. Thanks for bringing this up, Swiggy must respond. — TM (@_tanmay1) July 24, 2024

By declaring them as delivery partners they are getting away with everything.— think_buzz (@DHAVAL_PRAJA) July 24, 2024

Now we have to pay for raincoats and bags extra in our bills— Aman Kulkarni (@AmanTheKulkarni) July 24, 2024

To prevent abuse! You can give anything for free to people who are not working for Swiggy! Also to keep an eye on them! I know it sounds bad, but I think that’s the logic! — Radiking 🤴.Monad 💜 (@radikingjo) July 24, 2024

What a shame! I thought Swiggy provides this to its delivery partners but this is ridiculous. — ನಿರ್ಜೀವಿ (@OntiJeevi) July 24, 2024
