Here’s how to make a tandoor clay oven
Tandoor ovens have many uses in preparing traditional Indian dishes around the world. It consists of a large, vase-shaped oven made of clay, which is highly popular in Asian and some African cuisines. Primarily used for baking flatbreads such as roti and naan, but they are also used to impart a smoky or burnt flavor to dishes containing meat, fish, cheese and vegetables. The thick clay walls of the tandoor absorb and store heat from the bottom. Recently, a content creator on Instagram page ‘@Indianfoodvlogs21’ shared a video showing how to make Tandoor Mitti from scratch. In the video, a wide cylindrical body made of clay with a thin neck is placed inside an iron container.

Later, the space between the two objects is filled with cotton sand and broken bricks, which is then sealed with cement in the final layer. The video also shows workers beating and hammering the stuffing with all their might to ensure it sits properly. Once the stuffing is collected, they let it dry before finally selling it to customers. The caption next to the video reads, “The art of making a tandoor mud oven from scratch.”
