Indian Railways often faces the brunt of passengers being unhappy with the food served to them. Sometimes the quality becomes the issue and sometimes contaminated food leads to severe backlash. That was not the case this time. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), an elderly passenger was seen arguing with a waiter on board the Vande Bharat Express. It so happened that the railway staff mistakenly served food to the passenger, who was probably a vegetarian. In a fit of rage, the elderly man allegedly slapped the waiter twice. The incident took place on July 26 when the train was travelling from Howrah to Ranchi. A fellow passenger may have recorded the live footage.

The note reads, “Vande Bharat mistakenly served non-veg food to an elderly man. He did not see the instructions and ate the food. Being a vegetarian, he realised it tasted like non-veg, so he got angry and slapped the waiter twice.” In the video, the waiter is seen apologising for his mistake. Co-passengers intervened and supported him. A passenger hit the back of the elderly man’s head and asked him to apologise to the waiter.”it is written above (It is written above)”, he angrily told the elderly man, and pointed to the label that comes with food packaging which determines whether the food is vegetarian or non-vegetarian.

Social media users were quick to react to the video. One person asked, “Why do people hate protein?”

One person strongly opposed the physical clash and commented, “You cannot take the law into your own hands just because he is poor and cannot fight.”

Condemning the actions of the elderly man and the passenger who beat him, a user wrote, “The elderly man did wrong by slapping the waiter. The man in the red T-shirt also did wrong by hitting the elderly man on his head and shoulder. Both should be punished.”

,Meaning I didn’t even read it, I even ate it, and on top of that, so much nonsenseAnother commented, “This means he didn’t even read the label, ate the food and on top of that is saying such nonsense?”

Meaning you didn’t even read it, you ate it and on top of that you are talking so much nonsense! So many mistakes have been made by committing suicide. – Home Minister Citrus Fruit (@KhataMeethaFaal) July 29, 2024

One critic disagreed, writing, “This has become a pattern ‘by mistake’. There have been many such cases on domestic airlines, Zomato and Swiggy. This must be independently investigated and the guilty punished.”

This has “accidentally” become a pattern.
Many such cases have been reported on domestic airlines, Zomato and Swiggy.
There should be an independent investigation into this. And the culprits should be punished. — TheLastOracle (@theMillionSandy) July 29, 2024
