We all know that cucumbers are a staple in salads, detox waters, and sandwiches, but who knew they could also be a part of a world record! China’s Zhang Yazhou has taken cucumber harvesting to a whole new level — and he didn’t use a knife. Instead, he sliced 41 cucumbers in just one minute using only a deck of cards. Yes, you read that right.
Known for his card throwing skills, Zhang recently made it to the Guinness World Records for this feat. With a flick of the wrist, he sends cards flying into the air with such precision that cucumbers are split in half.
In a video shared by Guinness World Records on Instagram, Zhang is seen standing at a distance from a row of cucumbers hanging on a stand. One by one, the cucumbers fall in half as their leaves are cut away. Some slow-motion shots show the accuracy of each throw, making it feel like a scene from a martial arts movie.

Zhang’s achievement was no accident. According to Guinness World Records, it took him 20 days of practice to perfect his throw and make it into the record books.
The caption of the Guinness World Records post reads, “Most cucumbers harvested by throwing cards in one minute, 41 by Zhang Yazhou.”

In December 2024, Guinness World Records shared another achievement related to cucumbers. Members of India’s Bir Khalsa martial arts group set a record for placing the most pieces of cucumber with a chainsaw in the mouth of a blindfolded person in one minute.
The video shows a blindfolded man using an electric chainsaw to cut a cucumber held by a teammate, and a third member immediately replacing the cucumber as he cuts it. This record was set with an astonishing 71 slices in just 60 seconds – without anyone getting hurt.

While these methods may not be the most practical way to slice cucumbers, they certainly demonstrate the creativity and skill behind some of the most bizarre Guinness World Records. Although recording may sound tempting, do not try this at home as there may be a potential health or safety risk.
