His weight started affecting his health. PCOS and four miscarriages turned her life upside down, but she didnât let it deter her. She lost more than 33 kg and is now living a happy healthy life. how it all started
âMy journey began in 2012 when I found myself at my heaviest weight â 93 kg,â says Dr. Sushma. The weight gain was the result of a series of life-changing events: four miscarriages and a complicated Fifth pregnancy. âIt was a difficult time. I struggled with medical complications, depression, and severe joint pain. My hemoglobin level was dangerously low, and I felt trapped in my own body.â
The turning point came when she decided she had to take responsibility for her health. âMy goal wasnât just to lose weight â it was to get off the medications and feel like myself again,â she explains.

Dr. Sushmaâs journey was not very easy. âComing from a conservative family, it was challenging to make fitness a priority. Initially, when I decided to join a gym I did not get much support,â she said.
But she remained focused. In two years he lost 33 kg, due to which his weight came down to 60 kg. Her transformation not only improved her health, but also inspired her to become a fitness coach, helping others achieve their goals.
A Setback and a ComebackLife had more challenges ahead of it. In 2019, his weight again increased by 10 kg due to personal issues. âIt was disappointing,â she said. âAs a fitness coach, I felt like I wasnât living up to the expectations I had set for myself.â
Thatâs when his guru, Hemanta Rao stepped in. âHemant believed in me when I doubted myself. He helped me lose 11 kg in a year and encouraged me to push my limits,â she says.

Hemantâs encouragement inspired Dr. Sushma to participate in natural bodybuilding competitions â something she had never imagined. âHe understood my love for tea and added 40 grams of sugar and 1 liter of milk to my diet, making it sustainable for me,â he said.
With their support, she trained hard and competed in two back-to-back shows and won gold, silver and bronze medals in different categories.
What inspires you the most?
When asked how she stayed motivated, Dr. Sushma says, âI kept reminding myself why I started. My health strugglesâPCOS, miscarriage, and depressionâwere constant reminders that I needed to stay on track. Every small milestone boosted my determination.â

Dr. Sushmaâs success was not about extreme diets or unstable routines. âI stuck to home-cooked, quantitative food â dal, rice, vegetables and roti. My coach made sure my diet was practical and included my favorite things like tea,â she says.
His exercise regimen was equally simple. âConsistency was important. I didnât rush the process; I focused on gradual, sustainable progress,â she adds.
