weight loss in real life Story: While you love to eat, it can be challenging to control the urge to eat, leading to weight gain that becomes difficult to control. Clothes don’t fit, you get tired quickly, and even simple tasks like tying your shoe laces become a struggle. This unhealthy weight gain can lead to a number of health problems, low self-esteem, and can also affect your mental health. This was the reality for Aishwarya Sinha, a 23-year-old medical student, who struggled to lose the excess weight. However, she proved that “where there is a will, there is a way.” Aishwarya, who once weighed 109 kg, now weighs 74 kg. Here’s how she did it!
“In February 2021, I was supposed to start college. While shopping, I realised that even 3XL clothes didn’t fit me. I started getting breathless after just walking for 20 minutes. I felt I wasn’t fit. I wanted to be the best version of myself and was tired of being overweight. So, I decided to do anything to lose weight and thus began my transformation journey,” she shared.
It took Aishwarya 8-9 months to lose the excess weight. Being a foodie, it was difficult for her to stay away from sweets and junk food, which used to take over her mind. “I love sweets and food used to control my mood. Controlling sugar cravings was mentally challenging. There were times when I doubted whether controlling sugar cravings was right? Weight Loss “All this was happening and I was wondering how long it would take to lose all that weight,” he said.
Aishwarya’s main goal was to fit into a size L, stop listening to people’s comments, and feel worthy and confident in herself. Her biggest motivation was the endurance needed to survive medical school and college peer pressure.
Weight loss diet and workout regime to be followed during the transformation
Breakfast: Aishwarya’s breakfast usually consists of oats and milk with tea (without sugar). She has completely eliminated sugar from her diet and avoids biscuits and processed foods.
Lunch: He ate home-cooked food, which included a bowl of rice, potato-less vegetable, dal, fish, yogurt and cucumber.
Snacks: His snacks included black coffee with nuts, which also served as his pre-workout meal.
Dinner: For dinner he avoided carbohydrates and ate grilled cheese, chicken or egg whites with tomato and garlic soup.
Workout: Aishwarya worked out in the evenings, mainly focusing on cardio. She ran on the treadmill for 45 minutes, burning about 250 calories. She specifically followed Emi Wong’s YouTube videos for exercises that targeted specific areas of the body. She also incorporated skipping and dancing in her routine. She worked out 3-4 times a week.
Ashwariya also practiced intermittent fastingDinner by 7 pm and breakfast the next day at 10 am. For breakfast, she eats low-sugar fruits, nuts, berries and egg whites.
Did you face any obstacles during your weight loss journey, and if so, how did you overcome them?
“There were no major hurdles. I had set a target of six months for my body, but it took 8-9 months, which is fine. Once you start seeing results, your motivation increases,” he said.
What advice would you give to others who want to embark on a similar transformation journey?
“If I can do it, anyone can do it. Just start! That’s the hardest part. Don’t set a date; just start. Avoid eating for fun, taste, mood boosting or just for the sake of eating. Eat only when necessary and control your portions,” she said.
How has your life changed since achieving your weight loss goal?
She said, “It has helped me gain confidence and wear clothes I always wanted to wear, people have started appreciating me, I can run around as a doctor and be enthusiastic about my postings and work. In short, it has made me a much more disciplined and happy person from within.”
