What is Hymenoplasty, a virginity-reversing surgery for which a Brazilian model is willing to spend millions? is it safe?
The 23-year-old Brazilian influencer says she is willing to spend millions to have hymenoplasty—virginity-restoring surgery—for “personal and cultural” reasons. Also known as vaginal rejuvenation operation, hymenoplasty re-establishes the integrity of the torn hymen that is ruptured after sex or sports activities like gymnastics, inserting a tampon or even a Pap smear test. Young Brazilian model and social media influencer Ravena Hanneli has decided to spend thousands of dollars on undergoing hymenoplasty – a surgical procedure to restore her virginity.
Commonly known as hymen repair, it is a cosmetic surgery where the doctor joins the torn edges of the hymen using dissolvable stitches. Experts say that even though it is primarily symbolic, the procedure is sought for personal or cultural reasons.
Hannely said she will spend $19,000 for the surgery and that it is more than just a medical procedure for her. “This marks a new beginning in my personal and professional life,” he said. She also stressed that surgery is about self-respect and a deeply personal choice, insisting, “It’s my self-respect and personal reasons that are important to me.”
what is hymenoplasty,
also known as a vaginal rejuvenation operationHymenoplasty re-establishes the integrity of a torn hymen that is ruptured after sex or sporting activities such as gymnastics, tampon insertion or even a Pap smear test.
The hymen is a thin, pink membrane located at the bottom of the vagina. Doctors say women who qualify for this procedure, also known as hymenorrhaphy, are:
- who are healthy without any infection
- There should not be any cancerous tissue in the vagina or cervix
- are over 18 years of age
How is hymenoplasty performed?
According to experts, the surgery depends on the need and condition of the hymen, and hence certain techniques are followed:
basic techniques
The local anesthesiologist gives general anesthesia to numb the hymen before the surgery and since it is an outpatient surgery, the procedure takes about 30-40 minutes to complete.
hymen reconstruction
It involves reconstruction of the hymen with the help of tissues removed from the vaginal lips. After the procedure is completed, your surgeon will suggest you abstain from sex for at least three months.
all plant technology
It involves the insertion of a biomaterial – a tear-through material that acts as a hymen – into the vagina.
Doctors say that sometimes due to some reasons it is not possible to stitch the parts of the hymen back together. So, in such cases, a small flap of vaginal lining or synthetic material is used to create a structure that mimics the hymen. This layer may not be exactly like the natural hymen, but it causes bleeding during intercourse.
What are the benefits of getting hymenoplasty done?
Doctors give some reasons why this surgery is beneficial, including:
- It restores the integrity of the hymen
- It helps in reducing the pain and trauma of sexual assault victims
- Hymen rejuvenation gives some women a youthful feeling
side effects of surgery
Like every other surgical procedure, hymenoplasty, although it is considered mostly safe by doctors, can have various side effects, including:
- increased bleeding rate
- pain during sex
- Mark
- vaginal infection
- ugliness
- discoloration
- Numbness and swelling after surgery
