New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and we can’t wait to welcome 2025. We are all preparing for the much awaited party as it is time to relax and ring in the New Year with gusto! But usually in such parties we go overboard and drink more than our capacity. Integrative lifestyle expert Luke Coutinho explains that consuming too much alcohol can have a significant impact on nutrition, leading to deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals. He shared on his official Instagram handle what to do if you have drunk too much alcohol.
His post explains that too much alcohol can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies resulting in various health problems including poor immune function, disturbances in energy metabolism and liver dysfunction.
Luke shares a list of nutrients that are depleted due to excessive alcohol consumption:
-Vitamin B: Excessive alcohol depletes levels of nearly all B vitamins or impairs their absorption, affecting vital functions such as converting carbohydrates into energy, cognitive health, liver health, libido, energy levels, weight regulation, and neurotransmitter synthesis. Are.
-vitamin C: Due to deficiency of this vitamin the immune system becomes weak.
-Magnesium: The deficiency affects more than 300 functions in the body, including muscle and nerve function.
– Melatonin: Alcohol disrupts melatonin production, leading to poor sleep quality and difficulty achieving deep sleep.
-Vitamin A: Low levels affect vision and immunity.
– Zinc: Deficiency impacts libido, immunity and energy levels.
In his post he further explains what to do if you have drunk too much alcohol:
“If you drink too much alcohol, make sure your diet is rich in foods that contain the above vitamins and minerals. Stay super hydrated and make sure you have enough protein at each meal as protein helps regenerate the liver and other cells. Work up a sweat through exercise, sauna and steam. Get deep sleep to recover. If you find yourself looking for happiness or support in alcohol then seek therapy,” his post further read.
Additionally, there are a few things you should keep in mind while drinking to avoid a hangover the next day. This also includes:
If you’re choosing between whiskey and vodka, choose vodka. Clear spirits contain fewer congeners (byproducts of fermentation), which means they’re less likely to make you feel like a zombie the next day.
Water is your best wingman
Here’s the rule: For every alcoholic beverage, drink a glass of water. It’s simple but incredibly effective. This will not only keep you hydrated, but will also slow down your alcohol consumption, keeping you feeling chilled all night long.
Skip Aroma Mixer
Those sweet cocktails may taste like heaven, but they’re trouble. Mixers containing sugar can spike your blood sugar, causing crashes that can worsen hangover symptoms. Soda water, fresh lemon, or unsweetened juice are much better choices.
