Wheat production in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 was 356.89 lakh tonnes, 349.23 lakh tonnes and 349.77 lakh tonnes respectively.
The Assembly was told on Monday that Madhya Pradesh has seen a decline in wheat crop production in the last five years, which has declined from 371.98 lakh tonnes in the financial year 2019-20 to 328.96 lakh tonnes in the financial year 2023-24. This was said in the written reply submitted by Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana on the question asked by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Umang Singhar.
Wheat is one of the most important crops of Madhya Pradesh. Sharbati wheat is a regional variety of wheat, obtained from wheat grown in Ashoknagar and some other districts.
Singhar asked about the production data of wheat and soybean from financial year 2019-20 to financial year 2023-24.
The minister said that wheat production in MP was 371.98 lakh tonnes in 2019-20, which decreased to 328.96 lakh tonnes in 2023-24.
The reply said wheat production in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 was 356.89 lakh tonnes, 349.23 lakh tonnes and 349.77 lakh tonnes respectively.
Soybean production has increased during the same period. Madhya Pradesh’s soybean production increased from 38.56 lakh metric tonnes in 2019-20 to 68.36 lakh metric tonnes in 2023-24.
The reply said that soybean production in 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 was 33.70 lakh, 53.92 lakh tonnes and 63.32 lakh tonnes respectively.
