Popular dairy brand Amul often releases content commenting on news of public interest. One of its latest pictures shows US President-elect Donald Trump and billionaire businessman Elon Musk. Wonder why? Trump recently announced that Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy (former Republican presidential candidate), will lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency. This news has made headlines around the world, sparking heated debate and discussion for many reasons. Amul did not take any stand on this issue. Rather, it used wordplay to make a witty reference to news making waves on social media.
Speaking of which, we see Trump leaning in front of a desk behind which sits Elon Musk. Trump holds up a finger that is partially covered in butter. Kasturi is holding a buttered piece of bread. There is a piece of butter and a stack of bread slices on the desk (these are common items in many Amul topicals). The top of the illustration reads, “Will you make me smile?” There are at least two examples of play on words here. First of all, “Muska” is a play on the Hindi word “muska” which means butter. Secondly, “Do Gay” represents the initials of the Department of Government Efficiency. In Hindi, “Doge” also translates to “Will you give?” In keeping with these possible allusions, the question (“Muse me gay?”) may also be a reference to the Hindi idiom “muska marana”, which has a meaning similar to the English phrase “butter someone”. This is open to interpretation.
At the bottom of the subject it is written, “Amul Unpreserved Taste!” The changed spelling of “unprecedented” is, of course, a reference to Trump’s election as US President. Take a look below:

Earlier, in 2023, Amul had shared a theme featuring Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. It was released after there was widespread speculation of an online feud between the two, following the launch of ‘Threads’ as a platform to compete with Twitter. Click here to read the full article.
