A 38-year-old woman was six months pregnant when she noticed a change in her health. Sarah Wilson, who was 27 at the time, said she was dropping her eldest child off at school on a sunny day when she noticed he was unable to close his eyes during the school run. According to a report in Mirror.co.uk, she said she was unable to squint to block out the sun and that’s when she realized something was wrong.
Wilson, who was six months pregnant with her second child, was told by doctors that the symptoms could be pregnancy-related. He was also having difficulty hearing anyone in his left ear and started experiencing tinnitus. He was then referred to the ear nose and throat department. During the appointment, which did not go ahead until eight months later, Sarah was told she would need an MRI scan. However, due to her still being pregnant, it was scheduled after her C-section birth, reports the Manchester Evening News.
He said, “I felt that something was not right.” My conscience was telling me. Whenever I went to the doctor, they said it was pregnancy related symptoms.
Sarah started doing her own research and found that her symptoms were similar to brain TumourAfter this Sara gave birth to her son, who is now 10 years old, and a week later he had an MRI scan. “As soon as I came out of the room and I saw the staff, I could tell just by looking at them,” she said. “I knew what was happening.”
“I was sitting there with my baby and my mom and I saw a nurse carrying a box of tissues in. I said to my mom, ‘I’m sure I’m going to be called into that room.'” And she did. Did this. Then the mother of two was told that she had a brain tumor.
Sarah then had an operation to remove the tumor and was told there was only a one percent chance of it returning. However, when the tumor was gone, it left the mother of two with permanent damage, including deafness in her left ear, tinnitus, balance problems, dry mouth and neurological problems.
Nearly a decade later in June 2024, a scan revealed that Sarah’s tumor had returned. “I never thought for a minute that it would come back,” Sarah said. A week after the scan I got a call to tell me I had an appointment. I thought, ‘This is really uncomfortable, I don’t need an appointment to be told it won’t come back.'” The results showed a small growth that was affecting a nerve in Sarah’s face.
