This sea bridge promises to revive passenger and trade ties between the two countries. The ferry service, which was originally scheduled to start in October 2023, was put on hold due to the unavailability of a particular ferry. But now, the Sivaganga cruise ship operated by Indusri Ferry Services Pvt Ltd will traverse the historic sea route, overcoming the challenges posed by the controversial Park Strait.

India-Sri Lanka Ferry Timings and Prices

According to reports, the ferry will operate daily, and the journey between the two ports will take four hours. Offering both ordinary and premium class seats, the ticket prices are competitive, especially when compared to air travel options. The cruise ship Sivaganga has 133 seats in the ordinary class and 27 seats in the premium class. The ticket price for a one-way journey is around Rs 5,000 for ordinary class and Rs 7,500 for premium class. The new ferry terminal at Nagapattinam has modern facilities including health and security checkpoints.

However, due to rough sea conditions the service will be suspended from November 15 to January 15 every year.
