India’s love for momos has taken a bizarre turn, with strange new versions appearing at street food stalls across the country almost every day. Traditionally, momos are soft dumplings filled with vegetables, meat or cheese, served steamed or fried. However, foodies are now encountering quirky twists that push the boundaries of this beloved dish. From chocolate and gulab jamun momos to Maggi and dry fruit momos, the variations have been significant. But none of these oddities have shocked foodies as much as the latest product – Fruit Momos, priced at Rs 170.
In a viral video shared on Instagram, a street vendor from Delhi walks viewers through the preparation of this amazing creation. First, the vendor arranges a plate of fruits – apples, bananas and guavas. Before adding milk, liquid cheese and cream to the mixture, he sautés them in butter. Salt, pepper and mixed herbs are added to this mixture. The dish is finished with fried paneer momos, mixed together in a pan, and served to the customer. The vlogger who filmed the video says, “Such momos will not be found in entire Delhi” (You won’t find this dish anywhere in Delhi), adding that it is specially made for gym buffs. Suffice it to say, not everyone is ready to embrace the concoction of fruits, cream and fried momos. One user commented, “Those were good times when momos were made only of vegetables, chicken and paneer.” “No disrespect to you, I’d rather choose poison,” another wrote. Another comment read, “In hell, he will be fried not in oil, but in Amul butter.” Another user asked, “Is this momo veg or paneer? Brother this is poison.” “Don’t want this,” was all someone else said.
