From breathlessness and bloating to persistent cough – 9 common cancer symptoms you shouldn’t ignore

The hardest part about detecting and diagnosing early-stage cancers is that, often, they have no symptoms – and even if they do, they are usually associated with many other causes and conditions. However, when they occur frequently and persistently, you should get yourself thoroughly checked. Read on to know about these symptoms.
From breathlessness and bloating to persistent cough – 9 common cancer symptoms you shouldn’t ignore

There are over 200 different types of cancer that all cause common symptoms

Today, with improved cancer screening, most people are living longer than ever after a cancer diagnosis. According to doctors, regular screening helps detect diseases earlier, when they are easier to treat. Therefore, if you feel any discomfort, you should get it checked thoroughly.
However, noticing any symptoms – you may think it could be cancer – does not necessarily mean you have the disease. However, to be safe, you should talk to your doctor. There are over 200 types of cancer that cause all sorts of symptoms, some of which are:

Fatigue and weakness

Doctors say it’s normal to feel more tired after a stressful day or after traveling a lot and staying up late at night. However, when you’re tired for no apparent reason, it could be a sign that something is wrong.
Experts say that fatigue can be a symptom of people suffering from blood, breast and prostate cancer.

Injuries

Injuries are also common if you are clumsy while walking. However, if you notice bruises, wounds or swelling on your body without bumping into anything, get yourself checked immediately/
According to doctors, these could be symptoms of lymphoma or leukemia.

Body pain

Body pain is one of the most common ailments of people across the world, which usually occurs during weather changes. However, pain and discomfort without any reason can be a sign of lung cancer – which has spread everywhere.

breathlessness

It’s common to feel short of breath while running, climbing stairs, or doing strenuous exercise. But when it happens even when you’re resting, it could be a primary symptom of cancer that has spread throughout your body.

Ulcer

If you have an ulcer, you’ll have a sharp burning pain in your stomach that gets worse after eating. And doctors say that for many people with stomach cancer, unintentional weight loss is their first symptom. Ulcers cause some people to experience discomfort between their breastbone and navel.

loss of appetite

If you have cancer, tumors can interfere with your body’s hunger signals in a number of ways. Cancers of the head, neck and gastrointestinal tract can cause difficulty swallowing, pain when eating or a feeling of fullness even when your stomach is empty, doctors say.

Ovarian, lung, stomach, and pancreatic cancers also commonly cause loss of appetite.

persistent cough

A cough is not a sign of cancer, but if it is persistent – it could be a sign of lung cancer. Doctors say that lung cancer coughs vary widely, so if you are coughing for no apparent reason and are persistent, it is important to see a doctor.

Swelling

It is not always normal to have bloating. Persistent bloating that persists throughout the day for up to three weeks is one of the most common early symptoms of ovarian and bowel cancer.
According to doctors, this can also be accompanied by abdominal bloating – a swollen appearance in the stomach which is a major problem.

Unable to urinate

Not being able to urinate can be a symptom of a urinary tract infection or both bladder and prostate cancer.
Doctors say that when bladder cancer grows large or spreads to other parts of the body, it causes difficulty in urinating. Other symptoms include blood in the urine, which can make it appear pink, red or orange; pain or burning while urinating, frequent urination, the urge to urinate even when the bladder is not full, frequent urination at night, bone pain or swelling in the legs
