The move comes as a measure to boost tourism. The facility will be available at six airports for now: Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
However, only citizens of Japan, South Korea, and the UAE who received e-visa or regular visa can apply. India Travellers who have already visited India are eligible to get an on-arrival visa. This will be valid for a period of 60 days and travellers will be able to visit India twice during that period.
Here are some important things you should know about this feature:
  • This facility will not be available to any person whose either of his/her parents or grandparents (paternal or maternal) were born in Pakistan, or are permanent residents of Pakistan.
  • This facility is not available to diplomatic/official passport holders.
  • Japanese, South Korean and United Arab Emirates nationals are required to fill out an application form (Annex I) to obtain a visa on arrival.
  • As per the instructions provided on the portal, the Indian government has advised travellers to download the form, take a printout, fill it up and submit it to the ‘Visa Officer’ at the visa counter on arrival.
  • The physical form format will also be available from the airlines present on the flight. Japanese, South Korean and UAE nationals must bring along a duly filled ‘VOA Application Form’ and a duly filled disembarkment card.

Special instructions for UAE travellers

  1. The Visa-on-Arrival scheme is applicable to UAE citizens who have previously obtained an e-Visa or a regular/paper visa to India.
  2. UAE citizens visiting India for the first time are advised to apply for an e-Visa or a regular/paper visa.
