to promote tourism Karnataka The government is considering proposals to allow tents and sale of liquor on the state’s beaches, similar to Goa. Speaking at the ‘Connect 2024’ event in Mangalore on Wednesday, Tourism Department Director Rajendra KV mentioned how changes are necessary to attract tourists. “We need to relax the ban on alcohol consumption on Karnataka’s beaches, which can lead to increased tourist inflows, just like in the state of Goa,” he said.
According to him, to enhance safety and encourage people to spend more time on the beaches during the night, the department is considering installing additional lights along the coast. Additionally, district officials have been directed to identify government and private land near the beaches.
Rajendra further mentioned that a facilitation center will soon be set up to expedite clearances for tourism projects, including CRZ permissions. Mullai Muhilan, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, said, “The operating hours of restaurants and licensed businesses in Mangalore city have already been extended till 1 am and the same should be applied to beaches as well.”
