Edakkal Caves, Wayanad
Imagine you are trekking on a cliff with a breathtaking view of the Western Ghats and discovering a carved cave that is almost 8,000 years old! Well, this is what you can do at one of the unique places in Kerala – Edakkal Caves in Wayanad. These caves, like a rock shelter, are similar to the Bhimbetka shelters in Madhya Pradesh and exhibit the only Stone Age carvings in South India, dating back to 6,000 BC.
Gavi, Periyar
Surrounded by the beautiful Gavi Lake, Gavi is like a true paradise amidst the lush greenery of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The calm waters of the lake reflect the rich green color of the dense forest. With over 260 species of birds and plenty of wildlife, Gavi is an ideal place for nature lovers. Here, you can see bison, elephants, lion-tailed macaques and Malabar giant squirrels.
Vagamon, Idukki
If you are looking for tranquil hill stations away from the hustle and bustle, then Vagamon is the perfect hidden treasure in Kerala for you! Located in Idukki, it is sometimes called the ‘Scotland of Asia’. The nickname refers to the vast grasslands at the top of the mountain, which are great for the growing activity of paragliding at Vagamon.
