It is a holy month in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva. During this time, devotees perform a variety of rituals, fasts and prayers, often abstaining from meat, fish and eggs. Those who observe the fast may follow even stricter dietary guidelines, avoiding things like garlic and onions. According to a video, McDonald’s India has introduced a special menu this year, including the McCheese Burger and the McAloo Tikki Burger, both prepared without onion or garlic.

A food vlogger has shared a video on his Instagram page ‘eat.around.the.city’, introducing McDonald’s special Shravan menu on Instagram. In the caption, he wrote, “Get ready to enjoy McDonald’s new Shravan special menu this Shravan! It includes the famous McAloo Tikki burger which is now available without onion and garlic. They also have the classic McCheese Burger Veg which is free from onion, garlic and roots. And the new Flavours of India McAloo Tikki is also free from onion and garlic.”

He said, “I ate the Shravan special meal and it was absolutely delicious. I also got a behind the scenes look during the kitchen tour – it was great to see that McDonald’s has completely separate sections for preparing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.”

However, the move divided social media users. While some users appreciated it, many disliked it. Some said that eating out during Shravan should be completely avoided. Others brought up the fact that the burger buns are made of maida, which is not the best option during the holy month.

One user wrote, “Why do you also want to eat such fancy food in this holy month? Eat home-cooked food at least for 1 month.”

Another said, “After some time McDonald’s will start selling Sabudana Burger for fasting people.”

“But they also have non-veg. Then how to eat Shravan special at McDonald’s,” wondered a user.

Someone joked, “McDonald was laughing in the corner: wrap anything and they’ll eat it.”
