A recent viral video of a Japanese vlogger tasting Indian food in Tokyo has won the hearts of many online. It’s not just the food that has caught the attention of Desi people. The man is also heard speaking in Hindi while ‘reviewing’ the dishes he tasted. In the reel by @koki_shishido, the vlogger begins by announcing that he has decided to take on a 24-hour Indian food challenge in Tokyo. His first stop is the Nishi-Kasai area, which he says is known as “Tokyo ka Chota Bharat” (“Tokyo’s Little India”). He walks into an Indian restaurant and orders chole bhature and pani puri.

However, he found the prices quite expensive as he said, “It got a little expensive brother.” A plate of chole bhature cost 1200 yen (approximately Rs. 660) and pani puri cost 770 yen (approximately Rs. 425 as per current exchange rates). He said that in Mumbai you can get pani puri for just Rs. 20. Still, he says, “Chhole bhature was really delicious. Felt very good.”

After the meal, the vlogger and his companions went to a Desi “kirana dukaan” (a type of grocery store). He tasted samosas and gulab jamun there. He called the latter the “sweetest food in the world” as he found the sweetness level too much for his taste. After this outing, the two went for dinner at a famous Indian restaurant where they relished North Indian cuisine. They enjoyed unlimited naans with different gravies.
