Mukteshwar It has a fascinating past as a city, originally built by the British as an institute to research wildlife. Before this, the area was mostly covered with ancient temples and cultural architecture. However, it came into limelight after the production of The Cold Room in 1947. Additionally, this hill town is also famous for its association with Jim Corbett, who is said to have written the novel The Man Eaters of Kumaon at this place. Here are all the different places that you must visit once on your trip to Mukteshwar.

What better place to start than with the thing that brought this village fame – The Cold Room – which was built by Nobel Prize-winning scientist Robert Koch as a place to study bacteria and other microorganisms in the area. It was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1899 and is now under the Indian Veterinary Research Institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. There can hardly be any better way to see the science that was used to create the identity of this village.

Mukteshwar Dham

The other cultural touchstone that Mukteshwar is known for is rooted in Hindu mythology. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is an ancient Hindu temple that stood for almost four centuries and is a reflection of the ancient stories around the region. According to legend, Lord Shiva emerged victorious in a fierce battle with a demon at Mukteshwar and ultimately granted him salvation. You have to climb some stairs to reach the temple, which is situated on a hilltop.

Bear Burrow Falls

Let’s say you’re an explorer who prefers open views of nature. In that case, you might automatically be attracted to Bear Gad Falls, a 60 feet high waterfall that almost looks like an artistic horseshoe. This is a recently discovered tourist destination that isn’t too crowded, if that’s what you’re looking for. Also, this route is a beautiful trek that is perfect for adventure enthusiasts.

Methodist Church

Finally, if you’re looking for something a little different, the Methodist Church is one of the village’s few remaining colonial remains that you might want to check out. It is a small church, perfectly suited to the city for which it was built. Although you can see its age on the walls around it, the building has aged beautifully on the inside.
