These surface effects do not alter the mammogram image production or its effectiveness in identifying abnormalities.

Scientific findings and expert opinions have always agreed that the accuracy of mammograms is not affected by weather. Dr. Khandelwal explains that a mammogram is performed using low-dose X-rays to obtain detailed images of the breast. Their accuracy depends on factors such as:

2. Radiologist Specialization: The radiologists are experienced and will read the images properly regardless of the season.

Dr. Khandelwal explains that if your mammogram is scheduled during the winter, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Dress warmly: Take off your layers lightly for a mammogram.

2. Hydrate your skin: Cold and dry air can dry out the skin, so moisturize beforehand.

3. Try to relax: Anxiety triggers physical tension, so take some deep breaths or relax.

The notion that mammograms are less accurate in winter is a myth without scientific support. Screening accuracy is based on technology and expertise, which does not change with season. If seasonal factors delay mammograms, earlier detection efforts may be affected. “The best time for a mammogram is when your doctor advises you, not according to the season.
